Nearly twenty-five thousand residences in south-east Queensland found themselves experiencing outages on the start of the week after powerful weather events passed over the state, producing powerful gusts reaching over 100 km/h.

Substantial Hailstones and Broad Damage

Residents witnessed large ice chunks as large as 7cm in particular locations. Meteorological experts announced that multiple regions across the state had been hit with significant hail.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

State Emergency Services responded to nearly 600 emergency reports across the region, mostly for building damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

At one point on Sunday, over 28k energy customers in Victoria were without power.

Damp conditions were expected to linger along large portions of Queensland's east this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coast.

Tomorrow was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with continued storm activity predicted across different parts of both regions.

Medical Alert

Health officials cautioned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This alert comes after past events where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the region.
